The Attractions of Morocco

The city of Marrakech is situated against the backdrop of the High Atlas Mountains. In its center is the Djema el fna, a popular square where you could find colorful street performers, including musicians, acrobats, snake charmers and storytellers. The living medieval city of Fes el-Bali, dated to have existed since the 8th century, exudes charm that would keep you want to come back in the place. The city is also home to the Mellah, Jewish quarter, the Royal Palace and more souks. The newest addition to the city is Ville Nouvelle which features tree-lined avenues and wide boulevards.

The port city of Casablanca boasts of the religious building, Hassan II Mosque which was constructed by King Hassan II in the 1980s. After Mecca, this mosque is the second biggest religious building and takes pride in its minaret which is the tallest in the world. The mosque is built on a reclaimed land and one could see the water through its glass floor. It is said that the total construction cost for the building is $800.

Morocco’s Atlantic Coast is lined with the towns of Agadir with its famous Kasbah and Essaouira where wind surfers and sun worshippers flocked always. Overlooking the Atlantic is the capital, Rabat famous for its Hassan Tower, Andalusian gardens, Mausoleum of Mohammed V and the medieval ruins of Necropolis of Chellah.

Shared taxis are common in Morocco and an inexpensive way to travel within the cities. The bus network is efficient and cheap as well as the ferry service. However, the train network is somehow limited but the fares are quite reasonable.
